_.Sir John Christopher Smith-Dodsworth, 8th Baronet (Baronetcy GB, cr 1784), formerly of Thornton Watlass Hall, Ripon, and Coromandel, New Zealand, died 21 September, 2012, aged 77.

He was born 4 March, 1935, son of Sir Claude Matthew Smith-Dodsworth (1888-1940), by his wife the former Cyrilla Marie Louise Taylor.

He was educated at Ampleforth; succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 18 May, 1940; was thrice married, firstly, in 1961 (div 1971), to Margaret Anne Jones; 2ndly, in 1972, to Margaret Theresa Grey (d 1990), and thirdly in 1991 to Lolita Pulante.

Sir John leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage, and a son from the second, and a son and a daughter from the third. The baronetcy devolves upon his elder son, David John Smith-Dodsworth, who was born 23 Oct, 1963.
