The Hon Lady Worsley, chatelaine of Hovingham Hall, near York, sister-in-law of HRH the Duchess of Kent, and wife of the former Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Sir Marcus Worsley, 5th Baronet, died at her home, 22 May, 2002. She was 77. She was born Bridget Assheton, 20 August, 1926, the only daughter of the then Ralph Assheton, of Downham, Hall, Clitheroe, by his wife the Hon Sylvia Hotham, elder daughter of the 6th Baron Hotham (and a kinswoman of Camilla Parker Bowles). Bridget's father was a Conservative MP and later Chairman of the Conservative & Unionist Party Organisation, created a peer in 1955, as Baron Clitheroe. He died in 1984. Sylvia, Baroness Clitheroe died in 1991. Bridget Asshelton served in World War II with the W.R.N.S. She married, 10 December, 1955, the then (William) Marcus John Worsley, heir to the baronetcy of his father, Colonel Sir William Arthington Worsley. In 1961 her sister-in-law, Katharine Worsley, became the bride, in York Minster, of HRH the Duke of Kent, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Her husband was successively a Conservative MP and then Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire. He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1973. Lady Worsley is survived by her husband, 79, and by three sons,
William (heir to the baronetcy), Giles (journalist and architetural writer married to the Times journalist Joanna Pitman, who delivered one of her babies on the pavement outside a London hospital), and Peter (a godson of the Duchess of Kent), and one daughter, Sarah (now Mrs Elwes).
The funeral takes place at All Saints', Hovingham, Tuesday 1 June,
2004. A London Memorial Service will take place at a later date.

Joyce Marian Worsley, who died 1 June, 2006, aged 90, was the widow of Capt. Edward Marcus Worsley (1891-1971), of Cawton Hall, Cawton, York, an uncle of HRH The Duchess of Kent. She was the former Joyce Marian Beer, daughter of Stanley Graham Beer, of Northernhay, Bickley, Kent, and married a son of the 3rd Baronet in 1941. She is the mother of Susan Oliver, Thomas Edward, Angela Strickland-Skailes and Diana Rosalind, and grandmother of Robin, Lucinda, Nicholas and Charlie. The funeral service is at Stonegrave Minster on Monday 12 June, 2006.

Lady Campbell, who died in New Zealand, 5 October, 2005, was the second wife of Sir Robin Auchinbreck Campbell, 15th Baronet, and was a first cousin of HRH The Duchess of Kent. She was the former Elizabeth Colegate, one of the four daughters of Sir Arthur Colegate, Kt (d. 1956), sometime Conservative MP for Burton-on-Trent, of Bembridge, Isle of Wight, by his wife, the former Winifred Mary Worsley, daughter of Sir William Worsley, 3rd Baronet. She married firstly, 1947 (div. 1956) Richard Wellesley Gunston (later Sir Richard Gunston, 2nd Baronet, who d. 1991), a descendant of the Dukes of Wellington; and married secondly, as his second wife, Sir Robin (who succeeded to the baronetcy in 1970), at St Thomas's Church, Fendalton, Christchurch, New Zealand, 4 November, 1978. (Sir Robin's first wife, the former Rosemary (Sally) Dean, had died at Montanau, North Canterbury, New Zealand, earlier in 1978 (Source: Daily Telegraph 8 Mar 1978). She leaves a daughter from the first marriage, Caroline Jane, b. 1950, who m. 1971, Jonathan Robert Felton Peel, and has issue. A Memorial Service takes place 28 Oct 2005, at Holt Trinity Church, Bembridge, Isle of Wight.

Catherine Worsley (nee Hirtz) wife of Peter Marcus Worsley (b. 1963),
gave birth to a daughter, Matilda Bridget, 17 December, 2005, a sister
for Margot and Hector. Peter Worsley is the youngest son of Sir Marcus Worsley, 5th Baronet, by his wife the former Hon. Bridget Assheton, & is a nephew of HRH The Duchess of Kent; Catherine Worsley is the youngest daughter of M and Mme Jean-Marie Hirtz, of Paris.

Giles Arthington Worsley, who was b. 22 March 1961; died 17 January,
2006, aged 44, was a nephew of HRH The Duchess of Kent. He was the
second son of Sir William Marcus John Worsley, 5th Baronet (b. 6 April,
1925), by his wife the Hon. Bridget Assheton (1926-2004), daughter of
the 1st Baron Clitheroe. He enjoyed a distinguished career as an
architectural historian and critic, most recently for the Daily
Telegraph which he joined as architectural correspondent in 1998. He
married in 1996, Joanna Beaufort Pitman (b. 1963), then a journalist on
The Times, scion of that BLG family, and a great-granddaughter of the
1st Baron Luke (Her grandmother, the Hon Margaret Beaufort Lawson
Johnston married Sir Isaac Pitman). He is survived by his wife, by whom
he had three daughters (one daughter Emma Sylvia, was b. 13 Oct, 2000).
Another daughter was born in the street outside the Portland Hospital,
if my memory serves me correctly.

William Ralph Worsley (b 1956), son and heir of Sir Marcus Worsley, 5th Baronet, was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for North Yorkshire.

The Hon Carolyn Mary Wynyard Worsley (née Hardinge), who died on Christmas Day 2007, was b 1932, a daughter of the 4th Viscount Hardinge (1905-1979), by his wife the former Margaret Elizabeth Arnot Fleming; she married 1954, John Arthington Worsley (b 1928), son of Col Sir William Arthington Worsley, 4th Baronet, of Hovingham Hall, York, by his wife the former Joyce Morgan Brunner, scion of the Brunner Baronets, by whom she had issue, 3 sons and 2 daus. She was a sister-in-lawof HRH The Duchess of Kent.
A Memorial Service takes place at Uxbridge, Ontario, 11 January, 2008.

_. (George) Oliver Worsley, brother of HRH The Duchess of Kent, and a
scion of the Worsley Baronets (cr UK, 1838), died 30 November, 2010.
He was 83. Mr Worsley had been suffering from Huntingdon's disease.
He was b 1927, a son of Sir William Arthington Worsley, 4th Baronet (d
1973), by his wife the former Joyce Brunner. His sister Katharine
Worsley married in 1961, HRH The Duke of Kent, a 1st cousin of the
Queen.
Mr Worsley married 1966, Penelope, dau of Lt-Col Christopher Herbert
Fleetwood Fuller (scion of the Fuller Bts), by whom he had issue.
Thanksgiving Service at All Saints' Church, Hovingham, North
Yorkshire, 13 Dec, 2010.

_.Sir (William) Marcus John Worsley, 5th Baronet, died at his home Hovingham Hall, North Yorkshire, 18 Dec, 2012, aged 87. Sir Marcus served as Conservative MP for Keighley, 1959-64, and for Chelsea, 1966-74, was PPS to the Minister of Health 1960-61, to the Minister without Portfolio, 1962-64, and to the Lord President of the Council, 1970-72.
Sir Marcus, whose baronetcy of the UK was cr in 1838, served as Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, 1987-99, and was High Sheriff of North Yorks in 1982.
He was born 6 Apr, 1925, eldest son of Sir William Arthington Worsley, 4th Baronet (1890-1973), by his wife the former Joyce Morgan Brunner, dau of Sir John Brunner, 2nd Barronet (cr UK, 1895), and was a brother of Katharine Worsley, who married at York Minister in 1961, HRH The Duke of Kent, a first cousin of HM The Queen.
Worsley succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's demise in Dec, 1973, and he ran the Hovingham estate until handing it over to his son in 1987. He married 10 Dec, 1955, the Hon Bridget Assheton (who d 2004), daughter of the 1st Baron Clitheroe, PC (Peerage of the UK, cr 1955), by whom he had issue, three sons, William, Giles and Peter, and one daughter Sarah. He was predeceased by his youngest son.
The baronetcy passes to his eldest son, William Ralph, who was born 12 Sept, 1956.
