The Hon. Lady Palmer, DL, who died 29 July, 2004, was a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Berkshire from 1989, and widow of Colonel the Hon. Sir Gordon William Nottage Palmer, KCVO, OBE, TD (1918-89), Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire from 1978, and High Sheriff of Berkshire, 1965, Chairman of Huntley and Palmer Foods, &c, of Harris House, Mortimer, Berkshire, and Edrom Newton, Duns, Berwickshire.
She was Lorna Eveline Hope Bailie, descended from the Miller Baronets (extinct in 1942), & was daughter of Major Charles William Hugh Bailie, of Manderston, Berwickshire, and married the younger son of the 2nd Baron Palmer (1882-1950), in 1950, Her husband, heir presumptive to his brother the 3rd Baron Palmer (1916-90), was knighted in 1989 in the year of his death.
She leaves two sons, Adrian (b. 1951), who succeeded as 4th Baron Palmer in 1990, and the Hon. Mark Palmer (b. 1954).

The engagement was announced 16 Nov 2007 between Edward N. Ridley-Day, son of Mr and Mrs Christopher Ridley- Day, of Leguillac de Cercles, France, and Camilla Victoria Celia St John (b 1980), eldest daughter of Mr Robert William St John, of Clapham, London, by his wife the former Hon Vanessa Marguerite Palmer (b 1954),daughter of the 3rd Baron Palmer.

According to her Daily Telegraph obituary (19 Aug) Lady Palmer was born born Lorna Eveline Hope Bailie, at Abingdon, then in Berkshire, on 11 January, 1925. _________________ Michael Rhodes |
