John Joliffe Tufnell, b. 22 Feb, 1925, scion of the BLG family of Tufnell of Langleys; and a descendant of the Dukes of Atholl; only son of Samuel Joliffe Tufnell, Capt, Essex Yeomanry (b. 1893), by his wife, Phoebe Olga Johnstone; m. 15 Sept, 1949, Elizabeth Armstrong (Betty) (now deceased), daughter of William B. Sinclair, of Newlands, Glasgow; issue: Patricia, Ian, and the late Graham; grandfather of Gillian, Laura, Caroline, Susie; died 10 March, 2005. His great-grandfather, John Joliffe Tufnell (1805-94), married in 1853, Eleanor Margaret Murray (d. 1895), yst dau of the Rt Rev George Murray, Bishop of Rochester, scion of the Dukes of Atholl.

The 11th Duke of Atholl, holder of one of Scotland's grandest titles, died in South Africa, 15 May, 2012, aged 83. South African-born John Murray inherited the family honours from his second cousin, the unmarried 10th duke in 1996. He was born 19 Jan 1929, son of Maj George Murray (1884-1940), by his wife the former Joan Eastwood, and succeeded his kinsman, 27 Feb 1996, Duke of Atholl (Scotland, let. pat. 30 Jan 1703); 12th Marquess of Atholl (Scotland, let. pat. 7 Feb 1676); 11th Marquess of Tullibardine (Scotland, let. pat. 30 Jan 1703); 16th Earl of Tullibardine (Scotland, let. pat. 10 Jul 1606); 14th Earl of Atholl (Scotland, let. pat. 17 Feb 1628/29) 11th Earl of Strathtay and Strathardle (Scotland, let. pat. 30 Jan 1703) 12th Viscount Balquhidder (Scotland, let. pat. 7 Feb 1676) 11th Viscount Glenalmond and Glenlyon (Scotland, let. pat. 30 Jan 1703) 16th Lord Murray of Tullibardine (Scotland, let. pat. 25 April 1604) 11th Lord Murray, Balveny, and Gask (Scotland, let. pat. 7 Feb 1676) and
Chief of the Name and Arms of Murray, &c. Married 15 Dec 1956 Margaret Yvonne Leach, only dau. of Ronald Leonard Leach, of Louis Trichardt, Transvaal, South Africa, by whom he had issue, 2 sons and one daughter. The peeragees now devolve upon his elder son, Bruce George Ronald, styled Marquess of Tullibardine (b 6 Apr 1960).
