[Stephen Guy Nicolay]

Hello all,

I'm obviously new to the board and would like to start by letting you know that my research into my family (the Nicolays) has been going on for nearly a year now. Fortunately, due to various factors, I have been able to trace my lineage directly back to the first Nicolay to arrive in England - nobleman Gaspard de Nicolay from the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha.

Although it is fascinating to delve into the many accomplishments of members of the family, I am currently focusing on two elements:

1. The identity of Gaspard's father, grandfather ect ( to be more specific - to find the link from France to Saxe-Gotha).

2. The identification of our branch's coat-of-arms. I have one that was my great, great grandfather's and apparently pertains to our line, but I am not sure as there are at least 5 that have been besowed on the family over the centuries.

If anyone is able to offer any advice on how I should proceed or would be interested in assisting in any way, I would be eternally grateful.
