I want to ask this: Why was William Ponsonby created Baron de Mauley? What was his relation to this name and is it related to Jacques de Molay?

Note: Asking such questions was the main purpose I joined this forum, so if I make only threads like this, don't bother Wink

According to Cokayne's Complete Peerage, his wife Lady Barbara Ashley-Cooper was a coheir of the Barony of Mauley (created by writ 1295), through the Ashley-Cooper, Webb, Salvaine and Mauley families.
