The Lord Pym, MC PC, life baron, Conservative Government Minister in the Heath & Thatcher administration, died 7 Mach, 2008, at the age of 86. He took over as Foreign Secretary during the Falklands War following the resignation of Lord Carrington. He was Lord of the Manor of Sandy, Beds, and Gifford, and was Patron of the living of Sandy.

Francis Lesie Pym was b 13 Feb 1922, the only son of Leslie Ruthven Pym (1884-1945), MP, head of that LG family of Hazells Hall, by his wife the former Iris Rosalind Orde (scion of Orde of Hopton LG) and was educated at Eton and Magdalene College, Cambridge.

Career:--->>served in World War II as Captain, 9th Queen's Royal Lancers (Despatches, MC 1945); Member of Herefordshire County Council 1958-62; Conservative MP for Cambridge,1961-83, and for Cambridge Suth East, 1983-87, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury and Government Chief Whip, 1970-73; Secretary of State for Northern Ireland 1973-74; Secretary of State for Defence 1979-81; Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Paymaster-General and Leader of the House of Commons 1981; Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons 1981-82; Foreign Secretary 1982-83, President Atlantic Treaty Assoc 1985-88; sworn of the Privy Council 1970; created a life peer as Baron Pym, of Sandy Co Beds, 1987; married 1949, Valerie Fortune, dau of Francis John Heaton Daglish, by whom he had issue:-
(i) Hon Francis Jonathan Pym b 1952
(i) Hon Andrew Leslie Pym b 1954
(iii) Hon Charlotte Hazel b 1950
(iv) Hon Sarah Lucy b 1958

The engagement was announced 28 Apr 1995 between William A.C. Pym, only son of Mr & Mrs Martin Pym, of Barnfield, Charing, Kent, and Jane L. Martin, 2nd dau of Mr & Mrs John Martin, of The Link House, Woodford Green, Essex.

The engagement was announced 14 March 2012 between Benjamin Ruthven Pym (b 1979), scion of that landed family, son of the Hon Andrew Leslie Pym (b 30 Nov 1954), of Everton, Bedfordshire, by his wife the former, Ruth A. Skelton, and Anna L. Taylor, dau of Mr & Mrs Sidney Taylor, of Little Linton, Bedfordshire.

Benjamin Pym is a grandson of the late Francis Leslie Pym, Baron Pym, PC, MC (life peer) sometime Conservative MP and Foreign Secretary in the Thatcher Administration, &c.
