The engagement was announced 12 March, 2005 between Seán M. Derrig, son of Mr and Mrs James Derrig, and Alison J. Grade, daughter of Mr Michael Ian Grade, CBE (b. 8 March, 1943), by his first wife the former Penelope Jane Levinson (now Lady Hastings, second wife of Sir Max Hastings, Kt, the writer and broadcaster).

Alison Grade is a great-niece of the life peers Baron Grade and Baron Delfont. Her grandfather Leslie Grade was a brother of the peers.
