younger daughter of Alasdair Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton (b. 1939), of St
Boswells, Roxburghshire,by his wife the former Angela Kathleen Longley.


Tessa Douglas-Hamilton's late grandfather, Lord Malcolm Avondale
Douglas-Hamilton, OBE, DFC (1909-64) married in 1931, (Clodagh) Pamela Bowes Lyon, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth, consort of HM King
George VI.

John Percy Douglas-Hamilton, scion of the Dukes of Hamilton & Brandon, died 23 February, 2008, at Cape Province, South Africa. He was 78. He was b 14 February 1930, the son of Percy Seymour Douglas-Hamilton (1875-1940), by his wife the former Barbara Margherita Chiappini (who d 1975 having married 2ndly in 1946 a scion of the Arbuthnot Baronets). John married (i) in 1955 (div 1980), June Mary Clifton Michler, by whom he had issue; married (ii) 1980, Delia Rose Davies (nee Bilbrough). He leaves issue from his 1st union, John Gavin, b 1957; Tessa Jeanne b 1958; Debra Anne, b 1959 and Diana Barbara (twin with her sister Debra).

The Dowager Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon, widow of the 14th duke,
died at her home, 16 September, 2008. She was aged 92.

She was born in London, 25 May, 1916, the Lady Elizabeth Ivy Percy,
third child and 1st daughter of the 8th Duke of Northumberland
(1880-1930), by his wife the Lady Helen Gordon-Lennox, GCVO, CBE
(1886-1965), sometime Mistress of the Robes to Queen Elizabeth The
Queen Mother, daughter of the 7th Duke of Richmond & Gordon
(1845-1928).


Lady Elizabeth's two elder brothers were the 9th Duke of
Northumberland (1912-40) and the 10th Duke of Northumberland, KG
(1914-88), and a younger sister, Lady Diana Evelyn Percy (1917-78),
was the 1st wife of the 6th Duke of Sutherland (1915-2000).


She married at Edinburgh, 2 Dec 1937, Douglas Douglas-Hamilton
(1903-73), then styled Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale, son and
heir of the 13th Duke of Hamilton & Brandon (1862-1940). Her husband
succeeded his father, 16 March, 1940, and died at Edinburgh, 30 March,
1973.


The Duchess was mother to Angus, 15th Duke of Hamilton and Brandon,
Lord James, Lord Patrick, Lord David and the late Lord Hugh Douglas-
Hamilton; and grandmother of Lady Eleanor, Lady Annie,.—Alexander,
Marquess of Douglas & Clydesdale, Lord Johnny, Andrew, Charles, Jamie,
Harry, Brendan, Kitty and Isabel. Private family funeral. A Service of
Thanksgiving will be held at St. Mary's Parish Church, Haddington, on
Saturday 15th November 2008.

The Duke of Hamilton & Brandon is the elder son of Angus Alan Douglas [Douglas-Hamilton], 15th Duke of Hamilton (b 13 September 1938, d 5 Jun 2010), by his late former wife Sarah Jane Scott (b. 28 Oct 1945; d. 17 Feb 1994), eldest dau. of Sir Walter Scott, 4th Bt., of Beauclerc, Bywell St Andrews, co. Northumberland.

The Duchess of Hamilton is the former Sophie Ann Rrutherford,, dau of Mr Hubert Rutherford, of Roxburghshire and Mrs Isabel Rutherford, of Edinburgh.

_.Lady Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton, CBE, who died 14 January, 2013, aged 103, was a public spirited American who organised the wartime Bundles for Britain campaign. She was latterly a daughter-in-law of the 13th Duke of Hamilton & Brandon. She was born Natalie Wales, at Cohasset, Mass, USA, 6 Aug, 1909, daughter of Nathaniel Brackett Wales, and married four times, (i) in 1929 (Div) Kenelm Winslow; married (ii) 1937 (div) Edward Latham; married (iii) Edward Bragg Paine, of New York, from whom she was div, & married (iv) in 1953, as his second wife, Lord Malcolm Avondale Douglas-Hamilton, OBE, DFC (1909-1964), 3rd son of the 13th Duke of Hamilton & Brandon (1862-1940). There were 2 daughters of the first marriage. Lord Malcolm's first wife was a Bowes Lyon kinswoman of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, &c.
