     Captain John Alexander Campbell was born on 6 January 1856.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Duncan Campbell, 5th of South Hall and Ellen Barcroft Parker.1 He died on 16 October 1893 at age 37, from wounds received in action.1
     He was educated at Dreghorn College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was educated at Royal Navy Academy, Gosport, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military Chapel, Wellington Barracks, London, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Artillery.1 He fought in the First Matabele War in 1893.1
