Harriet Christian was born on 22 August 1863 at Pitcairn Island.1 She was the daughter of Thursday October Christian and Mary Young.1 She died in 1864, on-board the St. Kilda.1
She was among the 2nd wave of returnees from Norfolk in 1864, although she had been ailing for some time before leaving Norfolk. After her death on board, at her mother's request, her body was preserved for burial in the Pitcairn churchyard, by placing it in a barrel in the forepart of the ship.
It was an object of terror among the superstitious minds of the other children on board.1
