     Major Hubert Francis Crichton was born on 17 December 1874.1 He was the son of Colonel Hon. Charles Frederick Crichton and Lady Madeline Olivia Susan Taylour.2 He married Esther Eliza Sanderson, daughter of Llewellyn Traherne Bassett Sanderson and Lady Rachel Mary Scott, on 14 July 1903.1 He died on 1 September 1914 at age 39, killed in action.1
     He gained the rank of Nile Expedition in 1898.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1902, with the Imperial Yeomanry.1 He fought in the First World War in 1914.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Irish Guards.1

     Francis Edward Twining, Baron Twining was born on 29 June 1899.2 He was the son of Reverend William Henry Greaves Twining and Agatha Georgina Bourne.2 He married Helen Mary de Buisson, daughter of Arthur E. de Buisson, on 21 July 1928.2 He died on 21 June 1967 at age 67.1
     He was educated at Lancing College, Lancing, Sussex, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned in 1918 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Worcestershire Regiment.2 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1923.2 He gained the rank of officer between 1923 and 1928 in the 4th King's African Rifles.2 He was with the Colonial Service in 1929 at UgandaG.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1943.2 He held the office of Governor of North Borneo between 1946 and 1949.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1949.2 He held the office of Governor of Tanganyika between 1949 and 1958.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1953.1 He was created Baron Twining, of Tanganyika and Godalming in the County of Surrey [U.K. Life Peer] on 18 August 1958.1
