     Andrew Coats was born on 27 May 1862.1 He was the son of Thomas Coats and Margaret Glen.1 He married Isabella Alice Lyon, daughter of George Francis Lyon and Emma Ramsey Stark, on 28 July 1903.1 He died on 17 February 1930 at age 67.1
     He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901, with the Glasgow Yeomanry.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1
