     Swinburne FitzHardinge Berkeley was born on 20 October 1825.2 He was the son of Hon. George Charles Grantley FitzHardinge Berkeley and Caroline Martha Benfield.2 He married Eliza Maria Gray, daughter of John Gray, on 4 March 1862.1 He died on 31 December 1865 at age 40.1

     Colonel James Steel was born in 1792 at Cockermouth, Cumberland, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Joseph Steel and Dorothy Ponsonby.2 He married Adelaide Charlotte Christina Tremamondo.2 He died on 18 August 1859 at Brighton, Sussex, EnglandG.2
     He gained the rank of Ensign in 1808 in the 15th Native Infantry.2 Between 1812 and 1816 he served in Java and Burma.2 He was Deputy Judge Advocate General, Dinapore and Benares between 1825 and 1826.2 He was Superintendant of Police between 1830 and 1835 at Calcutta, IndiaG.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1841 in the Indian Army.2 He was Crown Superintendant of Cantonment Police, North West Provinces between 1847 and 1857.2 He was he visited his brother John where he donated £10 to the bell fund of Cockermouth Church in August 1856 at Derwent Bank, Cumberland, EnglandG.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)2 He was Commander of the 2nd Bengal European Regiment in June 1857 at Ambala, IndiaG.2 He gained the rank of Colonel on 9 October 1858.2
