     Lt.-Col. James Agnew was the son of Sir Patrick Agnew of Lochnaw, 1st Bt. and Margaret Kennedy.1 He married Marion Kennedy, daughter of Thomas Kennedy of Ardmillan.1 He died before 1661 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, without issue.1
     Lt.-Col. James Agnew gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Lord Kirkcudbright's Regiment.1 He fought in the Battle of Philiphaugh in 1645, for which he was thanked by Parliament.1 He lived at Auchrochar.1
