     Sir John Stirling Ainsworth, 1st Bt. was born on 30 January 1844.1 He was the son of Thomas Ainsworth and Mary Laurie Stirling.1 He married Margaret Catherine Macredie, daughter of Robert Reid Macredie, on 5 November 1879.1 He died on 24 May 1923 at age 79.1
     Sir John Stirling Ainsworth, 1st Bt. graduated from University College London, London, England, with a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.).1 He graduated from University College London, London, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1891.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1898 in the service of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, Borders Regiment.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cumberland.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Argyllshire.1 He was decorated with the Volunteer Officers' Decoration (V.D.).1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Argyllshire between 1903 and 1918.1 He was created 1st Baronet Ainsworth, of Ardanaiseig, co. Argyll [U.K.] on 12 January 1917.1
