     Major William Ashton Shuttleworth was born on 18 October 1952.1 He is the son of Lt.-Cdr. John Ashton Shuttleworth and Margaret Eugenie Blackwell.1 He married Belinda Mary Gray, daughter of Major John Magnus Gray and Patricia Mary Eggar, on 19 November 1983.2 He and Belinda Mary Gray were divorced in 1993.2
     Major William Ashton Shuttleworth gained the rank of officer in 1972 in the service of the British Army.2 He was educated at Nautical College, Pangbourne, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1985 in the service of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own).2
     He has three sons.2
