     William Bell was born in 1784.1 He was the son of Benjamin Bell of Blackethouse and Grizel Hamilton.1 He married Margaret Jane Craigie, daughter of John Craigie of Glendoick, in September 1809.1 He died on 19 June 1849.1
     William Bell held the office of Writer to the Signet (W.S.) in 1807.1 He was a Crown Agent.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of the City and County of Edinburgh.1
     He had four other daughters, all of whom died unmarried.1

     From September 1809, her married name became Bell.1
