Phillip Andrew Evans was born on 1 February 1957 at Warwick Farm, New South Wales, AustraliaG.1 He is the son of Horace Andrew Evans and Frances Mary Galvin.1 He married Susan Kim Abbott on 7 November 1975 at Oatlands House, Dundas, New South Wales, AustraliaG.1
Phil's first job was a temporary one-vaccinating and sexing chickens,
then at factories manufacturing springs and women's underwear. His
employers felt he had the potential to train for management but Phill
couldn't see his future in bras so he applied to join the military.
Phill did basic training at Singleton (1975) and then was assigned to an
2nd Field Engineer Regiment based at Enoggera in Brisbane. He applied to
join Dog Wing combining work with his recreational interest in Dog Training.
As a member of Dog Wing he was involved in several high profile exercises such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Melbourne in 1980 and the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in 1982. After 9 years service Phill decided to opt for
discharge. With his military background he soon found employment in the security industry and his reputation as a dog handler and trainer earned him the contract of selecting and training security dogs and handlers for Mt. Druitt Hospital. A
requirement of his security position was to carry a handgun at times -this and a number of other factors made him seek alternative employment and in 1985 he took up a position as Ordinance Inspector with Fairfield City Council. About the same tim
successfully ran a small business from home tattooing dog's (and cats) ears for the purpose of identification ('Dog ID'). In 1990 when the family opted to move to the country Phill left the Council and concentrated on house building. He later
founded Invergowrie Canine Centre and offered group and private obedience classes as well as boarding and training. In May 1998, an Ordinance Inspector's position became available. Part of Phill's current responsibility is the impounding of stray
animals and as such the inadequacy of the local pound prompted him work on a proposal to set up an Animal Shelter that would meet the more stringent new guidelines, offer a range of services such as desexing, training etc. and involve the local br
of the RSPCA so that the shelter would have a more favourable community profile. A possible site has been
selected near Armidale Airport and Phill is hopeful managing it.1
