     Horatio Gates Trussell was born in 1808 at Orland, Maine, U.S.A..1 He married Ramona Sparks Burke, daughter of James W. Burke and Maria De Los Remedios Josefa Eayrs, on 1 September 1851.1 He died on 16 May 1880 at Santa Barbara, California, U.S.A..1
     Horatio went to sea at an early age. In 1840, he commanded a clipper ship out
of Boston. He was first officer on the 'America' out of Portsmouth (NH) in
1946, and was later the chief master of the 'Sea Lion' out of LeHavre
(France), After his marriage, he succeeded Salisbury Haley as master of the
coastal steamer, 'Sea Bird'. (Wilson: From Mission to Majesty).1 He was Ship's Master.1
