     Captain Alexander Cosby was born between 1715 and 1717.1 He was the son of George Cosby and Ann Murray.1 He married Ann Shorthose, daughter of Reverend Hugh Shorthose and Jane Hester Cox, in 1740 at St. Anne's, Soho, London, England. He died in October 1759 at Surat Castle, Surat, India.1
     Captain Alexander Cosby gained the rank of officer in 1743 in the service of the 18th Regiment, in Minorca.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1745 in the service of the Montague's Ordnance Regiment of Foot.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1753 in the service of the Honourable East India Company Service.1 He held the office of Commandant of Surat in 1759.1

     Ann Shorthose was born circa 1719.1 She was the daughter of Reverend Hugh Shorthose and Jane Hester Cox.1 She married Captain Alexander Cosby, son of George Cosby and Ann Murray, in 1740 at St. Anne's, Soho, London, England.
     From 1740, her married name became Cosby.1

     Reverend Hugh Shorthose was born on 4 May 1679 at Amesbury, Wiltshire, England.1 He was the son of Reverend John Shorthose and Priscilla (?).1 He married Jane Hester Cox on 30 August 1696 at Stanton Barnard, Wiltshire, England. He died on 4 February 1735 at age 55 at London, England.1
     Reverend Hugh Shorthose matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, on 15 March 1694/95.1 He was Chaplain to Colonel Gower's Regiment of Foot.1 He held the office of Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.1 He was Chaplain to the Duke of Chandos.1
