     General Sir Henry Augustus Montague Cosby was born in 1743 at Minorca, SpainG.2 He was the son of Captain Alexander Cosby and Ann Shorthose.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Marsh, daughter of John Marsh.3 He married Ann Eliot.3 He died in 1822.2
     He gained the rank of General in the Honourable East India Company Service.1

     Captain Alexander Cosby was born between 1715 and 1717.1 He was the son of George Cosby and Ann Murray.1 He married Ann Shorthose, daughter of Reverend Hugh Shorthose and Jane Hester Cox, in 1740 at St. Anne's, Soho, London, EnglandG. He died in October 1759 at Surat Castle, Surat, IndiaG.1
     He gained the rank of officer in 1743 in the 18th Regiment, in Minorca.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1745 in the Montague's Ordnance Regiment of Foot.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1753 in the Honourable East India Company Service.1 He held the office of Commandant of Surat in 1759.1

     From 1740, her married name became Cosby.1

     Reverend Hugh Shorthose was born on 4 May 1679 at Amesbury, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Reverend John Shorthose and Priscilla (?)1 He married Jane Hester Cox on 30 August 1696 at Stanton Barnard, Wiltshire, EnglandG. He died on 4 February 1735 at age 55 at London, EnglandG.1
     He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, on 15 March 1694/95.1 He was Chaplain to Colonel Gower's Regiment of Foot.1 He was Chaplain to the Duke of Chandos.1 He held the office of Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.1
