     Sydney Haldane Olivier, 1st and last Baron Olivier was born on 16 April 1859 at Colchester, Essex, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Reverend Henry Arnold Olivier and Anne Elizabeth Hardcastle Arnould.1 He was baptised in June 1859 at Cholsey, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He married Margaret Cox, daughter of Homersham Cox and Margaret Smith, on 21 May 1885 at Tonbridge, Kent, EnglandG.1 He died on 15 February 1943 at age 83.2
     He was educated at Lausanne, SwitzerlandG.1 He was educated at Kineton SchoolG.1 He was educated at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent, EnglandG.1 He was educated in 1881 at Corpus Christi College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was in the Colonial Office between 1882 and 1920.1 He was Acting Colonial Secretary of British Honduras between 1890 and 1891.1 He held the office of Auditor-General of the Leeward Islands between 1895 and 1896.1 He was Private Secretary to the Earl of Selborne between 1896 and 1897.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1898.1 He held the office of Colonial Secretary of Jamaica between 1899 and 1904.1 He wrote the book White Capital and Coloured Labour, published 1906.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1907.1 He held the office of Governor of Jamaica between 1907 and 1913.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, in 1911.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.1 He was Secretary for India in 1924.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 23 January 1924.1 He was created 1st Baron Olivier, of Ramsden, co. Oxford [U.K.] on 9 February 1924.1 He wrote the book The Anatomy of African Misery, published 1927.1 He wrote the book The Empire Builder, published 1927.1 He wrote the book The Myth of Governor Eyre, published 1933.1 He wrote the book Jamaica, the Blessed Island, published 1936.1
     On his death, his barony became extinct.1
