General Sir Robert Brownrigg, 1st Bt. was born on 8 February 1758.1 He was the son of Henry Brownrigg and Mary Alcock. He married, firstly, Elizabeth Catherine Lewis, daughter of William Lewis, on 8 April 1783.1 He married, secondly, Sophia Bissett, daughter of Reverend Alexander Bissett, on 27 June 1818.1 He died on 27 May 1833 at age 75.1
General Sir Robert Brownrigg, 1st Bt. gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 9th Foot.1 He held the office of Governor of Landguard Fort.1 He held the office of Governor of Ceylon in 1812.1 He was created 1st Baronet Brownrigg [U.K.] on 9 March 1816.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.).1
