     Captain Charles Burney was born on 9 October 1825.1 He was the son of William Vincent Burney and Elizabeth Webster. He married Catherine Elizabeth Jones, daughter of Charles Jones, on 7 December 1849.1 He died on 19 June 1887 at age 61.1
     Captain Charles Burney gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.).1 He was the Superintendant at Greenwich Hosp School, Greenwich, London, England.1

     Admiral Sir Cecil Burney, 1st Bt. was born on 15 May 1858.1 He was the son of Captain Charles Burney and Catherine Elizabeth Jones. He married Lucinda Marion Burnett, daughter of George Richards Burnett, on 10 September 1884.1 He died on 5 June 1929 at age 71.1
     Admiral Sir Cecil Burney, 1st Bt. was commissioned, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the Egypt Campaign in 1882.1 He fought in the Sudan Campaign in 1884.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King Edward VII from 1906 to 1907.1 He was commander of the International Squadron blockading Montenegro in 1913.1 He was Senior Officer of the International Commissionn administering Scutari and outlying Albania in 1913.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1913.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1913.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He was second-in-command of the Grand Fleet between 1914 and 1916.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1916.1 He held the office of Second Sea Lord of the Admiralty from 1916 to 1917.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet in 1920.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Hampshire.1 He was created 1st Baronet Burney, of Preston Candover, co. Southampton [U.K.] on 27 January 1921.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1922.1 He retired from the military in 1925.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
