     William Cadogan was born on 5 February 1600/1.1 He was the son of Henry Cadogan and Catherine Stradling.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Thring, daughter of Tremer Thring.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Roberts.1 He died on 14 March 1660/61 at age 60.1
     William Cadogan held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Monaghan [Ireland] between 1639 and 1649.1 He gained the rank of Major.1 He fought in the English Civil War, defending Trim Castle, County Meath.1 He was Secretary to the Lord Deputy of Ireland.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Meath in 1658.1 He lived at Liscartan, County Meath, Ireland.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
