     William Anstruther-Gray of Kilmany and Carntyne was born on 6 September 1859.1 He was the son of John Anstruther-Thomson of Charleton and Carntyne and Caroline Maria Agnes Robina Gray.2 He married Clayre Jessie Tennant, daughter of Andrew Tennant, on 26 January 1891.1 He died on 17 April 1938 at age 78.1
     William Anstruther-Gray of Kilmany and Carntyne was baptised with the name of William Anstruther.3 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lanarkshire.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of South Australia.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lanarkshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife.1 On 1904 his name was legally changed to William Anstruther-Gray of Kilmany and Carntyne.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Andrews between 1906 and 1910.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.).1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Andrews between 1910 and 1918.1 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Scottish Horse and Royal Horse Guards (Blues).1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Territorial Army Reserve.1
