Kenelm Somerset Priaulx Butler was born on 24 November 1917.1 He is the son of Reverend Pierce Rollo Butler and Ethel Florence Symes.2 He married Janet Cooper Gimour, daughter of James Gilmour, on 14 August 1954.1
Kenelm Somerset Priaulx Butler gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Signals (Territorial Army).1 He was decorated with the Polar Medal (for service in Antarctic) between 1945 and 1948.1 He was Leader of the Falkland Island Dependencies Survey between 1947 and 1948.1 He was Secretary of the Falkland Island Dependencies Survey between 1948 and 1950.1 He was Admin Officer of South Georgia.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Falkland Islands Defence Force.1 He was manager of the Whaling Department, Compañia Argentina de Pesca between 1954 and 1958 at Buenos Aires, Argentina.1
