     John Hamilton of Preston is the son of Sir James Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Barbara Mure.2 He married, firstly, Anna Dalzell, daughter of Robert Dalzell, 1st Earl of Carnwath and Christian Douglas, circa 27 September 1632.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Seton, daughter of Sir John Seton and Margaret Kellie, in 1641.3 He died in 1647, without issue.3
