     Lt.-Col. Thomas Henry Edmund Oakes was born in 1895.3 He was the son of Thomas Harry Royal Oakes and Ada Beloe.2 He married Yvonne Emily Shoppee, daughter of Gerald Augustus Shoppee and Beatrice Young.3 He died on 30 November 1941 at Libya, killed in action.3
     Lt.-Col. Thomas Henry Edmund Oakes fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Field Artillery.2 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.) (and bar).3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 7 Anti-Tank Regiment, New Zealand Artillery.2 He lived at Auckland, New Zealand.1
