     Sir Gilbert Culwen was born circa 1296 at Workington, Cumberland, England.1 He was the son of Sir Gilbert Culwen and Eda Harrington.1 He married Avice (?) circa 1320.1 He married Margaret (?) after 1320.1 He died in 1370 at Workington Hall, Cumberland, England.1
     Sir Gilbert Culwen fought in the Battle of Crécy on 26 August 1346.1 He was invested as a Knight on 26 August 1346 from the King on the field of Crécy, for his brilliant services.1 On 8 May 1362 he began work on Workington Hall, when he laid the first stone of the chief tower.1
