     Reverend Derwas James Chitty was born on 2 June 1901.1 He was the son of Reverend James Charles Martin Chitty and Gwen Ethlin Georgiana Jones.2,1 He married Anna Mary Hawthorn Clark, daughter of Lt.-Col. Edwin Kitson Clark, on 5 July 1943.1 He died on 19 February 1971 at age 69, as the result of an accident.1
     Reverend Derwas James Chitty was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was the Rector between 1931 and 1968 at Upton, Didcot, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Temporary Chaplain in 1940 in the service of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.1 He wrote the book The Desert a City, published 1966.1
