     General Hon. James Cholmondeley was born on 18 April 1708.1 He was the son of General George Cholmondeley, 2nd Earl of Cholmondeley and Elizabeth van Ruytenburgh.2,1 He married Lady Penelope Barry, daughter of Lt.-Gen. James Barry, 4th Earl of Barrymore and Lady Elizabeth Savage, before 1736.1 He and Lady Penelope Barry were divorced in 1736.1 He died on 13 October 1775 at age 67, without legitimate issue.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel in 1742 in the 34th Foot.1 He gained the rank of General.1 He fought in the Battle of Fontenoy on 11 May 1745.1 He fought in the Battle of Falkirk on 17 January 1746.1
