     Sir John Clifton was born circa 1394.1 He was the son of Constantine de Clifton, 2nd Lord Clifton and Margaret Howard.1 He married Joan Thorpe, daughter of Edmund Thorpe, before 6 January 1431/32.1 He died before 1 December 1447, without any surviving issue.1
     Sir John Clifton succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Clifton [E., 1376] in 1395, although he never claimed this barony.1
