Lt.-Col. Sir Charles William Miles, 5th Bt. was born on 7 July 1883.1 He was the son of Sir Henry Robert William Miles, 4th Bt. and Mary Neame.1 He married Favell Mary Hill, daughter of Charles Gathorne Hill, on 1 October 1912.1 He died on 28 December 1966 at age 83.1
Lt.-Col. Sir Charles William Miles, 5th Bt. was educated at Uppingham School, Uppingham, Leicestershire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Somerset Light Infantry.1 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Miles, of Leigh Court, co. Somerset [U.K., 1859] on 7 February 1915.1 He was Assistant Military Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief of India between 1916 and 1919.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Somerset in 1932.1
