     Robert Mungo Maxtone Graham was born on 6 May 1931.1 He is the son of Anthony James Oliphant Maxtone Graham, 16th of Coltoquhey and Joyce Anstruther.1 He married Claudia Eva Tannert, daughter of Frederick Tannert, in 1962.1
     Robert Mungo Maxtone Graham was educated at Stowe School, Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, England.1 He fought in the Malayan Campaign between 1949 and 1951, with the Scots Guards.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was admitted to Scots Bar in 1957 entitled to practice as a Advocate.1
