     Hugh Benjamin Cochrane was born on 8 April 1925.1 He is the son of Arthur Blair Dundonald Cochrane and Nancy Barber.2 He married Anne Deirdre Scott, daughter of William Schoener Scott, on 5 September 1953.1
     Hugh Benjamin Cochrane was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England.1 He graduated from Queens' College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant between 1945 and 1947 in the service of the Royal Engineers.1 He was registered as a Chartered Enginner (C.Eng.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (F.I.Mech.E.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Institution of Civil Engineers (F.I.C.E.).1 He lived in 2003 at Hope Cottage, 15 Gretton Court, Girton, Cambridgeshire, England.1
