     Hew Seton Montgomerie was born on 23 June 1898.1 He was the son of Roger Arnulph Montgomerie and Annie Mason.2 He married Violet Muriel Rait, daughter of Donald Harry Rait, in 1938.1 He died on 12 August 1969 at age 71.3
     Hew Seton Montgomerie fought in the First World War.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Sherwood Foresters.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Air Force.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) [New Zealand] in 1930.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the New Zealand Temporary Staff.3 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.3 He gained the rank of Flying Officer in the service of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.3
