Sir Ralph Bagnall was the son of John Bagnall and Elinor Whittingham.1 He married Elizabeth Whitgreave, daughter of Robert Whitgreave.1 He died in 1596.1
Sir Ralph Bagnall fought in the Battle of Musselburgh in 1547.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1547 ater the Battle of Musselburgh.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) (Ireland) in 1550.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1551 in the service of the King Henry VIII's Army in Ireland.1 He was an ardent Reformer, whose lone rejection of Catholicism before Cardinal Pole and the House of Commons is commemorated in Tennyson's Queen Mary.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-under-Lyme between 1563 and 1567.1 He lived at Leek, Staffordshire, England.1
