     Major William Edward Gumbleton Bagwell was born on 5 May 1919.1 He is the son of Lt.-Col. John Bagwell and Mary Ethel Kingan.1 He married Katharine Mary O'Donovan, daughter of Brigadier Morgan John Winthrop O'Donovan, The O'Donovan and Cornelia Bagnell, on 11 June 1955.1
     Major William Edward Gumbleton Bagwell was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He fought in the Second World War in which he was wounded, as a Major of the Royal Norfolk Regiment. He was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.) in 1946.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1953 entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-law.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He lived at Belgrove, Cobh, County Cork, Ireland, which was sold in 1958.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1958 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He lived at Eastgrove, Cobh, County Cork, Ireland.1 He was a stockbroker.1 He was a partner in Goodbody at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He lived at Millbrook, Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland.1
