     Major Michael Joseph Balfe was born on 10 June 1850.1 He was the son of Captain Patrick Joseph Balfe and Anna Mary MacDermott.1 He married Kathleen O'Connell, daughter of John O'Connell and Elizabeth Ryan, on 29 July 1885.1 He died on 16 June 1928 at age 78.1
     Major Michael Joseph Balfe gained the rank of Captain and honorary Major in the service of the 5th Battalion Connaught Rangers.1 He held the office of High Sheriff in 1875, and again in 1890.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He lived at South Park, County Roscommon, Ireland.1

     Nicholas Dominick Joseph Balfe was born on 5 August 1854.1 He was the son of Captain Patrick Joseph Balfe and Anna Mary MacDermott.1 He married Margaret Hackett, daughter of Sir Patrick Hackett, in April 1894.1

     Margaret Hackett was the daughter of Sir Patrick Hackett.1 She married Nicholas Dominick Joseph Balfe, son of Captain Patrick Joseph Balfe and Anna Mary MacDermott, in April 1894.1
     From April 1894, her married name became Balfe.1

     Annie Mary Balfe was the daughter of Captain Patrick Joseph Balfe and Anna Mary MacDermott.1 She married Charles Edward Hawkes on 14 June 1869, leaving issue.1 She died on 7 March 1894.1
     From 14 June 1869, her married name became Hawkes.1
