     Captain Richard Hugh Smith-Barry was born on 21 February 1823.1 He was the son of John Smith-Barry and Eliza Mary Courtenay.1 He married Georgina Charlotte Grey, daughter of Colonel J. Grey, on 18 April 1850.1 He died on 23 January 1894 at age 70.1
     Captain Richard Hugh Smith-Barry gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 12th Lancers.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) of County Cork.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire.1 He held the office of sometime Admiral, Royal Cork Yacht Club.1 He lived at Ballyedmond, Midleton, County Cork, Ireland, in which he succeeded his uncle John Courtenay.1

     From 18 April 1850, her married name became Smith-Barry.1
