Colonel John Fitzroy de Courcy, 24th Lord Kingsale was born on 30 March 1821.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hon. Gerald de Courcy and Elizabeth Carlyon Bishop.2 He married Elia Elizabeth de Ponchalon, daughter of C. des François de Ponchalon, on 10 May 1864.1 He died on 20 November 1890 at age 69, without issue.1
Colonel John Fitzroy de Courcy, 24th Lord Kingsale gained the rank of Officer in 1838 in the service of the 47th Foot.1 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Turkish Contingent.1 He fought in the Crimean War.1 He was decorated with the Knight, Order of the Medjidie (4th Class).1 He was Stipendiary Magistrate of San Juan, Vancouver Island.1 He fought in the American Civil War.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Union Army.1 He succeeded to the title of 24th Lord Kingsale [I., c. 1340] on 15 April 1874.1
