     Sir Joseph Gurney Pease, 5th Bt. was born on 16 November 1927.1 He is the son of Sir Alfred Edward Pease, 2nd Bt. and Emily Elizabeth Smith.2 He married Shelagh Munro Bulman, daughter of Cyril Gounod Bulman, on 24 June 1953.1
     Sir Joseph Gurney Pease, 5th Bt. was educated at Bootham School, York, Yorkshire, England.1 He held the office of member of the Guisborough Urban District Council between 1950 and 1953.1 He was a hotelier in the Lake District.1 He was President of the North-West Regional Liberal Party between 1970 and 1971.1 He wrote the book A Wealth of Happiness and Many Bitter Trials, published 1992.1 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Pease, of Hutton Lowcross and Pinchinthorpe, co. York [U.K., 1882] on 23 September 2008.3
