Captain Charles Edward Bancroft was born illegitimately on 20 October 1863.2 He was the son of Marie Effie Wilton.2 He was baptised on 26 August 1866.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Catherine Grimston, daughter of William Hunter Grimston and Madge Kendal, in 1895.2 He married, secondly, Ellie Maude Moses, daughter of Hon. Henry Moses, on 1 August 1900 at Hong Kong.1,2 He died on 6 October 1906 at age 42 at Marylebone, London, England, after a long illness.1,2 He was buried at Brompton Cemetery, Brompton, Middlesex, England.2
