James Knox Polk

     James Knox Polk was born on 2 November 1795 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, U.S.A.G. He was the son of Samuel Polk and Jane Knox. He married Sarah Childress on 1 January 1824 at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, U.S.A.G. He died on 15 June 1849 at age 53 at Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.G. He was buried at Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.G.
     Was elected over Henry Clay by a popular vote of 1,338,464 to 1,300,097 and an
electoral vote of 170 to 105. George M. Dallas served as his vice-president.
Occasionally called 'Little Hickory'. During his presidency the USA grew by
800,000 square miles, including California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas;
the boundaries between Canada and the USA were set where they are today. Polk
did not seek a second term and, worn out from his hard work, died three months
after leaving office. He was President [U.S.A.] between 1845 and 1849.1

     Sarah Childress was born on 4 September 1803 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, U.S.A.G. She married James Knox Polk, son of Samuel Polk and Jane Knox, on 1 January 1824 at Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee, U.S.A.G. She died on 14 August 1891 at age 87 at Nashville, Tennessee, U.S.A.G.
     Her married name became Polk.
