William Howard Taft was born on 15 September 1857 at Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.. He was the son of Alphonso Taft and Louisa Maria Torrey. He married Helen (Nellie) Herron on 19 June 1886 at Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.. He died on 8 March 1930 at age 72 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.. He was buried at Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, U.S.A..
Won the Republican Nomination upon Roosevelts recommendation. Won the 1908
election over William J. Bryan by a popular vote of 7,675,320 to 6,412,294
and an electoral vote of 321 to 162. James S. Sherman was his vice-president.
On June 30, 1921 he became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Because of
his weight of 332 pounds he was nich-named 'Big Bill'. He was US President No. 27.
