James Monroe

     James Monroe was born on 28 April 1758 at Monroe's Creek, Westmoreland County, Virginia, U.S.A.G. He was the son of Spence Monroe and Elizabeth Jones. He married Elizabeth Kortright on 16 February 1786 at Trinity East Church, New York City, New York, U.S.A.G. He died on 4 July 1831 at age 73 at New York City, New York, U.S.A.G. He was buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A.G.
     He held the office of President of the United States of America in 1816. Was elected in 1816 by 183 to 34 electoral votes over Rufus King. Reelected in 1820 by 231 to 1 electoral votes over John Quincy Adams, his successor. During both terms Daniel D. Tompkins served as vice-president. Was the first president to take the oath on a raised portico in front of the Capitol. The dissenter in the 1820 election thought only George Washington deserved to be
unanimously elected. Was the third president to die on the Fourth of July.

She died on 23 September 1830 at age 62 at Oak Hill, Loudoun County, Virginia, U.S.A.G. She was buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A.G.
     Her married name became Monroe.
