     Mary Elizabeth Magdalen Swan was born on 5 August 1959.1 She is the daughter of Sir Conrad Marshall John Fisher Swan and Lady Hilda Susan Mary Northcote.2 She married Roger Peter Le Strange Herring, son of Colonel P. W. Le Strange Herring, in 1981.1
     Mary Elizabeth Magdalen Swan usually went by her middle name of Elizabeth.1 From 1981, her married name became Herring.
