Admiral Cecil Frederick Dampier1

     Admiral Cecil Frederick Dampier was born on 11 May 1868.2 He was the son of Reverend Augustus Dampier and Sophia Catherine Willis.2 He married Barbara Constance Anne Giffard, daughter of Walter Thomas Courtenay Giffard, 26th of Chillington and Mary Constance Briscoe, in 1913.2 He died on 11 April 1950 at age 81 at Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire, EnglandG.2
     He was commissioned in 1881, in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 14 July 1888.2 He gained the rank of Commander in 1900.2 He gained the rank of Captain in January 1904.2 He was Captain of the H.M.S. Audacious between May 1913 and October 1914 which was lost to a German mine off Lough Swilly.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in February 1915.2 He was Rear-Admiral of the Third Battle Squadron in March 1916.2 He was Admiral-Superintendent of the HM Dover Dockyard in 1917.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 August 1919.2 He retired from the military in 1922, with the rank of Admiral.2 He lived at Highfield, Bishops Waltham, Hampshire, EnglandG.1
