     James O'Connell was born in 1808.1 He was the son of Timothy John O'Connell and Mary Leonard.2 He married Margaret McElligott, daughter of Daniel McElligott.1 He died on 1 November 1900.1
     James O'Connell was a poet and Gaelic scholar.1 He made the first translation of the Bible into Irish.1 He lived at Barrow, Cheshire, England.1 An ode published on his death extols his promotion of education in Ireland and his generosity to the poor.1
